Seminar & Events
While Miromar Design Center’s primary focus is the sale of home furnishing products, it is also deeply committed to fostering an environment of continuing education for design professionals and consumers. Every month there are a variety of exciting and stimulating presentations. From fashion shows to culinary delights and guest speakers, there is always a new dimension to be discovered at Miromar Design Center. Many of these events are sponsored in conjunction with nationally recognized design industry magazines and other organizations with proceeds benefiting designated charities.
Selected design professionals throughout Southwest Florida have created vignettes in storefronts at Miromar Outlets using furnishings from Miromar Design Center. Located across from Neiman Marcus, on the south side of the mall, each vignette presents a different room, exhibiting unique interior home designs and applications of the most current materials and techniques. The vignettes and designers will change from time to time as will the worldwide collection of furniture, fabrics, flooring, lighting, kitchen and bath products, art, accessories and more, all found in the showrooms of Miromar Design Center.
Sample Sale
The annual Sample Sale provides a rare opportunity for those who desire to possess the very best in home furnishings and accessories to purchase items at savings up to 70% off original retail prices. The first day of the Sample Sale is dedicated to the trade only; the public is invited on the second and third days.
Fashion Obsession
A high fashion runway show and luncheon presents one-of-a-kind fashions and accessories created from fabrics, trims, tiles, stone and wood found in the showrooms of the Miromar Design Center and stitched by a professional couturier. Ensembles are auctioned during the event and proceeds benefit the American Heart Associations’ “Go Red for Women” campaign.
Saturday Seminars
A weekly seminar series (holiday weekends excluded) brings design professionals and artisans to the Miromar Design Center to discuss and demonstrate trends, techniques, technology and materials in a wide range of home décor subjects. The seminars are free and open to the public.

"Tile & Stone: The Gritty Truth"
CEU Presented by Jim Caron
Attention Architects, Interior Designers & Landcape Architects!
The Manuel Leon Ponce Seminars invite you to join them for this continuing education class, presented by Jim Caron:
"Tile & Stone: The Gritty Truth"
This seminar uses "real world situations" to break down the major design items of all types of tiles and stones and how to properly specify, install and maintain each. Case studies are used to illustrate the most common types of failures that occur and how to prevent them. We explore how tile and stone classification (based on their physical characteristics and factors such as slip and abrasion resistance, surface hardness and foot traffic ratings) affects end-users` health, safety and welfare at large while also addressing accessibility and sustainability issues. We then discuss how to properly select the stone/tile and installation system best suited for each application. We also look at the installation phase during which surface preparation, crack isolation, water-proofing and sound isolation all play a critical role in ensuring the success of your design. Finally, we answer questions relating to types of sealers and cleaners to use for each stone type to guarantee the success and longevity of your tile and stone projects.
Presented by Jim Caron. Since 1983, Jim has been working as an architectural specifications specialist for various manufacturers in the tile and stone industry and assists the design community from specification to installation on countless Tile and Stone projects.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
• Discuss how to select the best tile and/or stone installation for particular projects and demonstrate how to properly specify, install and maintain these.
• Investigate common types of tile and stone failures and how to avoid them.
• Identify tile and stone classifications based on individual physical characteristics such as slip resistance and surface hardness and how this relates to health, safety and welfare for the end user.
• Analyze the installation phase to learn about the critical role surface preparation, crack isolation, water-proofing and sound isolation all play in the end result of your design.
• Review the new 2008 ANSI standards for specifications for Ceramic Tile.
• Discuss emerging green trends in the world of tile and stone and where to access the various tile and stone products to assist potential contribution to the green building rating systems.
